Dr. Allison Milliner grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended college at the University of Arizona, where she earned her Bachelor of Science magna cum laude. After college, she moved to San Francisco for dental school at the esteemed University of the Pacific.
There, she was awarded her Doctorate of Dental Surgery with honors. She continued her general dental training with an advanced education in general dentistry (AEGD) residency at Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Chicago as an active duty Naval Officer.
A Legacy of Service
Throughout her military career, Dr. Milliner had the pleasure of providing dental care to a variety of patients. Her first duty station with the Navy was helping sailors at boot camp, some of who had never seen a dentist. While on active duty, Dr. Milliner also completed two deployments, one of a humanitarian nature and the other to the Persian Gulf treating Marines and sailors aboard the USS Boxer. The end of her time in the Navy was spent treating Navy Seals and personnel stationed on submarines in San Diego.
Although Dr. Milliner absolutely loved her training, experience, and duties in the military, she decided she would like to pursue residency to become a specialist in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. She completed her 27-month program to earn a Master of Science in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics at Loma Linda University and chose to open her private practice in Yuma.
Dr. Milliner believes that orthodontics is a dynamic profession which constantly offers new technology, techniques, and materials that have proven themselves based on research and evidence. It is essential to her to stay up to date on the latest developments in her profession, as well as remain closely connected with colleagues to ensure her patients get the best possible care available today.
Therefore, she participates in continuing education through memberships with the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, and Yuma Dental Study Club.
Dr. Milliner with Jonathan and Doogan
Dr. Milliner and her husband Jonathan met in 2005, while she was on active duty with the Navy and deployed on the USS Boxer as the dental officer. Jonathan has served as a Naval Health Care Administrator for nearly two decades and comes from a family of many retired Army and Navy service members.
During their free time, Dr. Milliner and her husband enjoy hiking, camping, skiing, and traveling, and they are actively involved with their church. They also have a dog, Doogan, who many of our patients enjoy paying a visit to during their appointments!
Volunteer and Mission Work
Dr. Milliner has enjoyed a long-term volunteer relationship with Thousand Smiles Foundation, an organization in Ensenada, Mexico that provides orthodontic, surgical, and general dental care for children born with cleft lip and palate. She has also participated on short-term mission trips to Malaysia, the Marshall Islands, Jamaica, and India.
Bringing her services to areas with no access to dental care and seeing lives transform with such remarkable gratitude is something deeply meaningful and unforgettable to Dr. Milliner. She hopes to continue blessing those in need for many years to come!
